Irregularities have allegedly marred the local government congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held across Adamawa State on Saturday.
Complaints of how election materials were handled characterised the exercise in the municipal local government areas of Yola North and Yola South, with party members crying foul and alleging that the materials fell into the hands of people who should not have them.
The Chairman of the local government congress committee, sent to conduct the sharing and dispatching of sensitive materials, in the state, Professor Umar Katsayal and his team were almost lynched as angry youths demanded election materials for their zones.
Senator Aishatu Dahiru (Binani) who represents Adamawa Central Zone in the National Assembly, reportedly joined people protesting against the process in the course of the day.
She stormed the state APC secretariat in Jimeta to express disagreement with the organisers.
Feelers from another urban LGA, Mubi North as well as most parts of the state indicated that confusion reigned where there were activities.
Sources said towards the evening of Saturday, near-zero activities characterised the process, with indications that party stakeholders were discreetly working consensus choices.
“All is not well with the Osun APC” – Caucus group cries out
It was said in some instances that opposing interests groups could not align but were instead organizing parallel congresses in alternate venues.
Towards the evening, many youths stormed the APC party Secretariat shouting variously, ‘We need justice,’ ‘No congress was held.’ ‘This is all a scam.’
The youths accused operatives of the DSS and the committee sent from the National Secretariat of the APC of conniving to divert materials meant for the congress.
The DSS officials were reported to have firing gunshots to keep angry youths off.
Even journalists became victims as DSS operatives and officials supervising the process forced journalists using their cell phone cameras to delete whatever they might have captured during the fracas.
